Real Madrid September preview

Real Madrid will be heading into the first full month of the season, having to catch up with Barcelona in the league and start the defence of their Champions League trophy.

A month of seven matches up in 22 days, Real will be playing an average of one match in three days.

With the majority of the first team currently with their various national teams, Real will start the month on Saturday, September 9, with a home game against Levante in the league and end with a tricky Champions League away match in Germany against Dortmund.

Real Madrid vs Levante
Saturday 9th September

First match in the month, but coming after the hectic international break. This could be a tricky one for Real Madrid. However with the support of the Bernabeu fans and the hunger to catch up with the teams ahead of them on the table. This should be three points in the bag.

Real Madrid can afford to start dropping so many points at the start of the season.

Real Madrid vs  APOEL
Wednesday 13th September

A second home game in a row, but in a different competition. The match comes up three days after the Levante game, but Madrid are expected to be home and dry.

First group game as the team bid to win the Champions League for the third time in a row and home games in a group that consists of Dortmund and Tottenham must be won to ease qualification.

Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid
Sunday 17th September

The third fixture for Zidane's men. Real Sociedad are currently joint top of the La Liga table with Barcelona, two points better off Real Madrid.

Sociedad at home will be a formidable opposition for Real Madrid, but barring any key injury and suspension, Real should get the three points.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis
Wednesday 20th September

Cristiano Ronaldo will be available for this game as he would have served his five-match ban. It is a game against Dani Caballos former side.

A home game, with the team buoyed by the return of Ronaldo, this should end up as a win for Real Madrid.

Alaves vs Real Madrid
Saturday 23rd September

Real Madrid's last La Liga fixture of the month, that comes before a crucial away Champions League match against Dortmund. Depending on previous results and the team's dynamic, Zidane may rest some key players for the match.

A potential banana peel, but winnable game.

Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid
Tuesday 26th September

Real Madrid's second group game of the Champions League against a well known and familiar opposition. A draw will be a decent result against an ever decent Dortmund side.

Verdict: Should be a comfortable month for Real Madrid.
No match against any fellow title contender and Ronaldo return will be a huge boost.
A month to gain momentum for the long season ahead.
