Man United to step up James Rodriguez chase as Rooney's replacement
United have agreed a £75m deal with Everton for Lukaku, and captain Wayne Rooney is reportedly on his way back to the Merseyside club, in a separate deal.
According to the Independent, Mourinho sees Rodriguez as Rooney’s perfect replacement. Rodriguez has had reduced playing time under Zidane, and the player may welcome a move to a top side that will guarantee him more playing time.
James made 31 appearances for Madrid last season as the Los Blancos went on to win the double, but wasn’t even on the bench for the Champions league finals.
The player’s huge marketability and commercial appeal also fulfil United’s dream of a big player. United have long been linked with Rodriguez, and it remains to be seen if Madrid and Manchester United will be able to negotiate a deal for the 25 year old.
