Nacho: Real Madrid "need to change very little''

The Real Madrid defender says the club needs just a little change to compete favorably next season. The Los Blancos won the double last season: the La Liga and Champions League,  setting a record as the first team to win the Champions League back to back.

The team displayed confidence and unity for most of last season, and Zidane's rotational policy was key to the team's phenomenal campaign.

Almost every position had at least two capable personnel, and even C. Ronaldo was rested at some points during the campaign. Long term Injury to Gareth Bale had little or no effect on the team's performance and results, with the likes of Isco and Asensio stepping up at crucial times.

Nacho has voiced out his agreement with team captain Sergio Ramos that the team doesn't need much change.

"Sergio Ramos came out and said the other day that we only need to change a few small things. I am with the captain," Nacho said via Benin Sports at Real Madrid's kit launch.

"When things are going good and when you can manage to create a real unity in the group, that is important. We are not the ones that deal with the signings and departures but if you ask me as a player in the squad, I would say we need to change very little.

The Spanish international who made 34 appearances in all competitions for Madrid last season, starting in 24 La Liga fixtures admitted that last season was his best in terms of playing time.

"Without doubt, it was the most minutes I have played. I have always asked for time on the field based on my efforts and this season is when I have felt most important.

"With these team-mates it is difficult to play, that is obvious. But yes, personally, I would say this year, and not just because I could offer something but because of the team we had and because we could achieve some big things."

Nacho played a key role in Madrid's success last season. His partnership with Ramos at the heart of the team's defence was key, with Pepe out injured.

He will hope and should get more playing time next season with the departure of Pepe. Based on his performance last season, he and Varane would compete to see who becomes the first choice to partner Sergio Ramos at centre back.
