Real Madrid 4-2 Bayern Munich: Player Ratings

Keylor Navas
Made some key saves to keep Madrid in the tie. Unfortunate to have conceded an own goal. Did well with his distribution. (7)
Dani Carvajal
Did well on the right to deny Frank Ribery time and space. Made a number of surging attacking runs. Played his part nicely. (7)
Nacho Fernández
Combined well with Ramos at the heart of the Madrid defence, in stopping the Bayern attackers. Did well on Lewandowski, made a number of blocks and interceptions to prevent more damage by Bayern. (7)
Sergio Ramos
It wasn't the best of night for the Real Madrid captain, who wasn't at his best. Made a good number of blocks and clearances. But scored the own goal that pulled the tie into extra time. (6)
Marcello Da Silva
What a performance from the Brazilian. He was solid defensively and dazzling offensively. He combined both his defensive and attacking duties perfectly. He made great block from a goal-bound Bayern shot, and did well marking and silencing Arjen Robben, preventing him from having much impact.
On the attacking front Marcello was massive. He made an beautiful assist for a C. Ronaldo goal in extra time after a great run between the heart of the Bayern defence. He was handful all through. (8.5)
Luka Modric
At first struggled to perfectly fit in to the diamond midfield, but improved with time. He wasn't too effective with his defensive duties but massively controlled things centrally for Madrid. (7.5)
Carlos Casemiro
Started the game poorly, losing possession in some dangerous areas of the field. But grew into the match. The new diamond formation would also have affected him. He gave away the penalty that gave Bayern a lifeline back into the natch. He improved slightly in the second half and had an assist to his credit. (6.5)
Toni Kroos
He was a victim of the diamond midfield setup, which reduced his effectiveness in the match. Combined well with Marcello on the left side of the pitch. Had a number of shots on target. Defensively couldn't do much against Arjen Robben. (7)
Isco
Came in for the injured Gareth Bale, and played well. Zidane must have adopted the diamond midfield setup to accommodate him, but that left Madrid vulnerable on the flanks.
Isco was good on the ball and his linkup play was superb. Allowed the likes of Ronaldo and Benzema to move well in the final third. (7.5)
Karim Benzema
A rather dull display from the Frenchman. He provided the linkup between defence and attack, but was less of a goal threat. No surprise when he was substituted. (6)
C. Ronaldo
A man of the match display from the forward. A hat-trick on the night, though two of his goals were marginally offside. It was a highly effective performance from Ronaldo who had missed some chances earlier in the game due to some poor decisions.
He steeped up in extra time scoring two goals to take him pass the centenary Champions League goal mark. (9)
Substitutions
Marco Asensio
Came on for Benzema midway through the second half. It was an effective substitution as the youngster brought some balance to the team. He did well with his dropping deep to get the ball, his crosses and was a threat going forward. (7)
Lucas Vázquez
Another effective substitution by the Madrid manager. He added some speed and dynamism to the Madrid attack. Made some key passes and was impressive. (7)
Mateo Kovacic
Came on too late to be rated
