Cristiano Ronaldo sets Club World cup record

Cristiano Ronaldo is the new highest goal scorer in the FIFA Club World Cup after the Portuguese scored the first goal in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Al Jazira on Wednesday as Madrid booked their place in the final.

Ronaldo's goal against Al Jazira is his sixth in the competition. This has moved him above the Barcelona duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and Monterrey striker Cesar Delgado who are all on five goals.
Ronaldo has featured in four Club World Cups. His first was with Manchester United in 2008. He scored one goal for United as they went on to lift the trophy.

He again featured in the competition with Real Madrid in 2014 but failed to score a goal.

He scored four goals on his third appearance in the competition in 2016 and has opened the 2017 edition with a goal. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Japanese side Kashima Antlers in the 2016 tournament and holds the record alongside Luis Suárez as the only players to have scored a hat-trick in the competition.

He could better and further strengthen his record if he scores against Gremio in the final on Saturday.
