Real Madrid 3-2 Malaga: Player ratings

Kiko Casilla
An unconvincing display from the Real Madrid shot-stopper, who should have done better for the second goal. This display on a day when Navas is on the bench speaks volume. He wouldn't be between the sticks in the team's next match. (4)

Dani Carvajal
A great performance from the right back. Stood out on a day when the Real Madrid defence was in shambles. (7)

Jesus Vallejo
The young defender struggled at times to match the pace of the game, or fill in for Sergio Ramos. He lacked the tenacity and steel to match the Malaga attackers.(5)

Varane 
As the most senior centre back, a lot was expected of him coming into the match, he failed to marshal the defence properly and was caught off positions a couple of times.(5)

Marcelo
He played a key role in the Real Madrid first goal and was massive on the attack. He combined his defensive and attacking duties perfectly. (7)

Casemiro
He played close to the Real Madrid back four and made a number of good defensive efforts. He crowned a decent performance with a goal. (7)

Toni Kroos
His misplaced pass led to the first goal. Played well offensively,  but lacked the total grip and control of the game. (6)

Isco
Worked hard with the ball, but the final balls let him down a number of times, lacked effectiveness. (6)

Lucas Vázquez
Just like Isco, worked tirelessly and was key in attack.  (6.5)

Cristiano Ronaldo
Great to see the Portuguese back scoring in the league. He played a key role in Benzema's goal and was alert to follow up his saved penalty and scored from the rebound. He worked hard, and what should have counted for his second goal was wrongly ruled out as offside. (7.5)

Karim Benzema
Scored the team's first goal, and did well with his linkup plays. Had some half chances from which he could have scored.  (6)

Luka Modric
He came on to change the game. He was barged over by Luis Hernandez in the box, leading to a penalty from which Ronaldo scored. (7)

Didn't have much of the ball. (5)
