Gareth Bale sets new British record at Madrid

Gareth Bale now holds the record as the British player with the highest number of appearances for Real Madrid. The Welshman came off the bench in the Copa del Rey match against Fuenlabrada for his 160th appearance for the club.

He has gone beyond David Beckham, who previously held the record with 159 appearances for Real Madrid. Former Manchester United star, Beckham played for Madrid between 2003 and 2007, scoring 20 goals.

Bale has however scored 70 goals for Real Madrid since joining the club in 2013 and has won 11 titles.

The third most capped British player for Real Madrid is Steve McManaman with 158 caps. The legendary midfielder spent four seasons at the club, scored 14 goals and won 7 titles.
