Dani Carvajal faces possible UEFA ban

UEFA has opened an investigation against the Real Madrid right back after his controversial late yellow card in the win over APOEL.

With scores already 6-0 and Real Madrid through to the second round, Carvajal delayed in taking an 89th minute throwing for which he was booked for time wasting. The booking was his third of the competition this season, which means he will miss Real Madrid's last match against German side Borrussia Dortmund.

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will now look at the case to see if  Carvajal received a yellow card on purpose breaching Article 15 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.  An offence that is punsihable with a two game ban. If found guilty, he could miss the first match of the second round of the competition.

Real Madrid faced similar charges in 2010 when the duo of  Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos were sent off in a 4-0 win over Ajax to miss a game against Auxerre. Both players escaped match ban, but were fined £16,700 each. Manager Jose Mourinho was given a one match ban for his role in the saga and as fined £33,500.

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will meet on 7 December to take a decision on Carvajal's and other Disciplinary issues from match day 5 Champions League fixtures.
