Real Madrid confirm Mateo Kovacic injury: May be out for two months

Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Mateo Kovacic suffered a ‘partial tear of his abductor muscle’ after he was substituted in the first half during the 3-0 Champions League in over APOEL.

The Croatian overstretched himself for a ball, and was substituted in the 25th minute.  Toni Kroos was brought on as his replacement.

An official statement from Real Madrid read thus:
‘Following the tests carried out on Mateo Kovacic, the player has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the adductor muscle tendon in his right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed.’

It remains to be seen for how long the midfielder will be out, Spanish outlet, AS says he will be out for six weeks, while Goal estimates that the player will be out for two months.

Kovacic joins Karim Benzema in the treatment room for Real Madrid.

Kovacic has been in fine form for Real Madrid in the few games he’s played this season. He is a perfect replacement for any of Luka Modric, Casemiro or Toni Kroos. In his expected absence Dani Ceballos should get more playing time.
