Gareth Bale rejected late Manchester United move - Report

Real Madrid reportedly offered to sell winger Gareth Bale days to the end of the transfer window it has been revealed.

The Welshman has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a good part of this summer, but a late move didn't materialise.

Bale suffered an injury plagued last season, starting just 17 La Liga matches.

He was tipped for the exit at the Bernabeu to create room for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe who was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid but ended up join PSG.

According to Don Balon,  (in Spanish) Zidane made a late push for Real Madrid to sell Bale so as to create space in the squad for Mbappe. Manchester United have been Bale's most likeliest destination should he leave Spain, and United were willing to offer £90m for the 28 year old. Florentino Perez considered the offer good enough, but the player was unwilling to make the move, according to the report.

Bale has won three Champions League titles and one La Liga title amidst many other cups with Real in the last four years, and the player consider it a huge career risk moving to United, a club just on its way back to ascendency.

With Ronaldo missing Real Madrid's first four La Liga matches, the goal scoring pressure has been on Bale and Benzema, and both players are yet to impress, judging by their performance in the opening two league matches.
