Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid: The stats you should know
Real Madrid have handed themselves a two goals advantage going into Wednesday second leg of this year's Spanish Super Cup with an empathic win over Barcelona, but not without some controversy.
A Gerard Pique own goal early into the second half handed Real Madrid the lead. Barca drew level when Lionel Messi converted from the spot after Keylor Navas was adjudged to have fouled Suarez, but relay showed that the Uruguayan dived.
Cristiano Ronaldo replaced Benzema midway through the second half and made an immediate impact, restoring Real Madrid's lead with a superb finish. The Portuguese star couldn't contain his joy as he pulled of his shirt to jubilate, an act which earned him a yellow card.
Things however changed suddenly when Ronaldo was fouled by Umtiti in the box, but the referee blew the other way round, penalized Ronaldo for diving, gave him his second yellow card and marched him off with a red card. Ronaldo however shoved the referee which could worsen his case, and lead to an extended ban.
Marco Asensio had the last say when he volleyed home after a Real Madrid counter attack, 10 minutes from time. Here are the key stats from the game:
