Zidane to sign new Real Madrid contract this week
The Real Madrid manager is expected to meet with club president Florentino Perez today for the first time after the team's Champion League triumph, and will sign a new deal with the club.
Zidane, appointed 18 months ago has won back to back Champions League titles, the first manager to do so in over two decades. He also led the team to La Liga title last season, a UEFA Super Cup win and a World Club Cup triumph.
Perez was quick to highlight Zidane's importance to the team and the club's future after he was re-elected as Real Madrid's president weeks ago.
"Sure he is safe and the first thing we are going to do after he comes back from holiday is renew him," Perez told esRadio after his re-election
"No one knows the club and the dressing room better than him. It is an advantage that he has over the rest and that has made him succeed for 17 months."
Zidane is back from vacation, from which he had timeouts in Greece, Italy and the Balearic Islands. The new deal is expected to keep the Frenchman at the club till 2020.
Real Madrid signed left back Theo Hernandez while Zidane was on holiday, while the he also sanctioned the promotion of Jesus Vallejo into the first team as Pepe's replacement.
A deal for Real Betis midfielder, Dani Ceballos is also expected to be announced this week.
