Alvaro Morata casts doubt over Real Madrid return

The departing Real Madrid striker has poured cold water on the idea a possible return to Real Madrid.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have agreed a deal that will see the player move to the Premier League Champions.

The 24 year old joined the Real Madrid youth team in 2008, and made his senior debut in 2010. After failing to nail down a starting place in the Real Madrid squad, Morata joined Italian side Juventus in 2014. He won two League titles and two Coppa Italia in two years, scoring 27 goals in two seasons.

Real Madrid then exercise a buyback clause in the player’s contract, bringing him back to the Bernabeu at the start of last season.

Despite scoring 20 goals in 40 matches in all competitions for Real Madrid last season, Morata is still behind Benzema in the pecking order at Madrid.

A third time (return to Madrid)… is difficult. Right now I’m not considering it.

Morata told AS, on his way to London for his medicals.

Morata says it’s been a slightly strange summer for him admitting its sad leaving Real Madrid.

It has been a slightly strange summer for me. A lot of things have happened. In the end, if God wishes, tomorrow I will be at a club that have wanted me for years, with a gaffer whom I have spoken to constantly. So I’m really happy. I have been training hard for whatever outcome, but I was clear that this was my objective. It’s sad to leave Real Madrid, but I hope that everything will go well for me at Chelsea.

When asked if he had any regrets about his second return to Real Madrid, he replied:

No, not at all. I’ve won four titles, among them my second Champions League with Madrid. I leave happy because the last time I pulled on the Madrid shirt was in Cibeles.
