Real Madrid ranked most powerful brand in world football

Success on the pitch is being translated to accomplishments outside the field for Real Madrid as the Champions League winners have been named the most powerful brand in world football.

The list, compiled by business valuation and strategy consultancy agent Brand Business sees Real Madrid overtake Barcelona as the most powerful brand in world football.

This follows Real Madrid's success in winning the double. The Los Blancos won the La Liga for the first time in five years, and also became the first team to retain the Champions League trophy after the 4-1 win over Juventus in Cardiff.

This is the 11th edition of the annual report, which rank clubs based on factors such as stadium capacity, squad value and size, social media presence, on pitch performance, fan satisfaction, stadium utilization and revenue generation to create a 'Brand Strength Index' BSI from which clubs were rated out of 100.

Europa League winners Manchester United were fourth on the list, and beatenChampions League winners Juventus were ranked fifth. Bayern Munich were third on the list behind Barcelona.
