Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid: Player Ratings

Real Madrid dropped two points after a goalless draw in their first visit to the Wanda Metropolitano in the first Madrid derby of the 2017/18 season.

It was a game of few chances and defences, whose result was a setback to both team's title challenge. The draw means both Madrid teams are now ten points behind Barcelona. With strikers from both teams struggling for goals and form.

Here's a rating of the Real Madrid players:

Kiko Casilla

He was rarely tested and did the little expected of him. Another clean sheet for him. (6)

Dani Carvajal

Great to see him back after missing the last eight games for the team. He was solid defensively and was active on the attack. It however showed that he isn't fully match fit on some occasions. (7)

Varane

Combined well with Ramos to deny the Atletico attackers time and space. Had a moment of scare in the opening minutes of the game, but grew in confidence. He made a goal-line blockage late in the second half, that was key in getting Real Madrid a point. (6.5)

Sergio Ramos

It was a game of sweat and blood for the Real Madrid captain. He made key blocks defensively and made his presence felt on the attack. He suffered a bleeding nose in the first half and was substituted at halftime. (6.5)

Marcelo

The left-back had a torrid time in the first half against Correa. He was massive in attack for Real Madrid, but his final balls weren't perfect, against a highly defensive Atletico side. (6)

Casemiro

The Brazilian played close to the Real Madrid back four, providing the needed defensive cover. He made key tackles and won the ball well in key positions. (7.5)

Toni Kroos

The German kept the team in motion, playing most of the game on the left side of the Real Madrid midfield. His efficiency has however reduced, he could have had more influence on the game with some key decisions. (6)

Luka Modric

Did well in transiting the game from defence to attack, and competed well against the Atletico midfielders. The ability to create the spark or moment of difference was however lacking. (6)

Isco

Undoubtedly Real Madrid's most involved player on the pitch. Had a lot of the ball, moved the ball well against a highly physical and compacted Atletico side, but the end couldn't find a way through. (7)

Cristiano Ronaldo

Another league game without a goal for the Portuguese. He worked hard and had a number of blocked shots. (6)

Karim Benzema

The Frenchman was good with his linkup plays and movements but lacked penetration. He was substituted midway through the second half. (5)

Substitutes

Nacho

Came on for Ramos at halftime and did a good job defensively. Unnecessarily got himself booked for arguing with the referee. (5)

Marco Asensio

Tried to create openings within the Atletico defence, and added some verve to the Real Madrid attack, but all that didn't change the outcome of the match. (5)
