Keylor Navas' Costa Rica qualify for Russia 2018

Costa Rica with Real Madrid shot stopper Keylor Navas in goal have qualified for the World Cup with one round of match to play.

Costa Rica hosted Honduras in the penultimate round of qualifiers that was postponed by 24 hours due to Tropical Storm Nate.

The host before the match were almost guaranteed a place in Russia, either by automatic qualification or by playing in the playoffs with two matches to go.

Navas was barely tested in the first half, but was beaten by a Eddie Hernandez header midway through the second half which gave the visitors the lead. Costa Rica left it late, and equalised in the 95th minute, as Kendall Waston rose to power in a Bryan Ruiz crossed from the right.

The draw puts Costa Rica on 16 points in cementing their second place spot. They four better than third place USA and five adrift leaders Mexico. In the CONCACAF system of qualifiers, the top three teams qualify automatically for the World Cup with the fourth placed team goes into the playoffs.

Costa Rica will play fourth place Panama in their last qualifying match.

Keylor Navas joins other Real Madrid players from Spain, Germany and Brazil whose counties are guaranteed a place in Russia next year.
