Real Madrid 2-2 Valencia: Player Ratings : Asensio impresses, Benzema woeful
Keylor Navas
Had little to do in the first half, other than picking the ball in his net for a goal he couldn't do anything to prevent. His anticipation was top notch, came off his line to make a couple of great clearances. Made a great save from a great free kick midway through the second half. (7)
Dani Carvajal
Did well on the attack, buy wasn't at his best defensively. Clearly missed the calmness and coordination of an experience centre back like Sergio Ramos or Varane around him. (5)
Casemiro
Naturally not a centre back, impressed with a number of timely tackles and clearances, but was far from convincing. Struggled to cope with Zaza. Was booked for a rash tackle midway through the second half. (5)
Nacho
The most defensively experienced of the two centre halves, but couldn't stamp his authority on the game. (4)
Marcelo
Didn't have any defensive troubles like his peers, but wasn't at his best on the attacking front. (6)
Toni Kroos
Was meant to act as a defensive cover for the fragile defence, but was way off his best. Wasn't effective in connecting the defence to attack. Unsurprisingly substituted. (5)
Luka Modric
Undoubtedly the best of the Madrid midfielder on the night. Probed the Valencia defensive very much for a goal. Had a good shot saved. His passes and link up plays were fantastic. (7)
Isco
Wasn't at his dominating best. Had one of the best Real Madrid chances in the first half, but delayed in taking his shot. Substituted at half time. (6)
Marco Asensio
A man of match display from the young Spanish international. Scored his first goal with trademark long range shot to give Real Madrid the lead. And was the saviour, scoring from a well taken free kick late into the game to rescue back point for Zidane's men. (8.5)
Gareth Bale
Another far from impressive display from the Welshman. Had a number of half chances, but couldn't convert. (4)
Karim Benzema
Arguably the biggest culprit of the night. Presented with some of Real Madrid's best chances but missed all. Couldn't even score a tap in. Zidane will have to think twice about the Frenchman being the team's main and sole striker. (3)
Substitutes
Matteo Kovacic
Came on at half time, and imposed himself on the midfield. (6)
Lucas Vasquez
Didn't have decent amount of touches to cause any serious damage. (5)
Mayoral
Came on too late. (No ratings)
